The NBCD School was established in 1953 as the Atomic Biological Chemical Defence and Damage Control School and was the only school of its kind in the country at that time.  The School from its modest start, today boasts of state-of-the-art Simulator Triad like the Damage Control Simulator, Fire Fighting Training Simulator and the NBC Simulator which aid the School in imparting training under near realistic conditions that are encountered onboard our ships.

The School is classified as a Cat A Training School taking into consideration the large throughput of trainees at this School.  At present, NBCD School conducts as many as 121 courses with a throughput of approximately 6200 personnel per year. 

The NBCD School primarily conducts training on defence against Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Warfare besides Damage Control and Fire Fighting tactics for the Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard, Indian armed forces personnel, personnel from friendly foreign Navies and other few civilian personnel as directed by IHQ MoD (Navy).
