Welcome to Navigation Direction International Alumni Portal
Navigation Direction School is a premier Cat 'A' professional training institution located at Kochi, India. The School functions under the aegis of the Southern Naval Command, which is the Training Command of the Indian Navy. The School is co-located with INS Venduruthy, Naval Air Station 'Garuda', Ships of the First Training Squadron and other professional Training Schools in the Naval Base on Wellingdon Island.
In 1945, Radar Training was introduced as a special qualification for Seamen, and the branch was split into Radar Plotter and Radar Controller sections. The School was commissioned on 12 Aug 1952 and started with 'Basic Radar Plotter Training'. The first Radar Plotter 'Instructor'course was conducted in 1957 and the first Long ND specialist course for officers was conducted in 1958. This School commenced training officers and men from friendly foreign navies in 1967. Since then these School has trained 2126 officers and 806 sailors from friendly foreign countries including Bangladesh, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Cameron, Fiji, Ghana, Indonesia, Kenya, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritius, Mozambique, Myanmar, Nigeria, Oman, Philippines, Senegal, Seychelles, Singapore, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Thailand, Madagascar, Lebanon, Guyana,Tonga & Vietnam.
ND School is affiliated with the Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT). The university recognises a large number of our courses for award of Master's Degree (for the Officer's Specialisation course) and various other Diplomas for other courses.
To complement the training, the School is equipped with latest simulators and interactive facilities including Ship Handling Simulator, Helo Control / Air Direction Simulator, ARPA/ ECDIS Fleet Work Simulator, IRPCS Trainer, Magnetic Swing Simulator, Operations Room Trainer (ORT), E-Bay, Taramandal (Astronomy) and Language Lab.
